It is either a primary emotional reaction to an immediate perceived danger or a secondary emotion that arises after many other emotions are layered one upon another and create a state fear.

In George Orwell’s famous novel, 1984, the first reference to Big Brother is entered into the mass consciousness. Big Brother is a figurehead that represents the ‘state’ or the ruling class.
